Does Your Dentist Make You Want to Smile?

Creative Commons License photo credit: Kmo139General dentistry focuses on dental problems that compel necessary remedy, from oral hygiene and the diagnosis and eradication of tooth decay, to the prevention and treatment of oral disease. On the other hand, cosmetic dentistry is a desired treatment that focuses on enhancing the presentation of a person’s teeth, mouth and smile. Though they may go hand-in-hand, these two distinctions are notable because if you want to improve your smile, it is valuable to keep in mind that overall good health, including good oral hygiene, is a vital part of beauty.

Cosmetic dentistry affords many approaches to assist you in proving your oral appearance and augment your smile. Nowadays, even dental fillings could fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because you can select fillings composed of porcelain or composite ingredients that nearly duplicate the tint of your teeth. As a result your teeth and your smile remain natural looking. You may decide to have your older fillings replaced with newer, tooth-colored fillings as well. With today’s technological advancements in natural-looking, tooth-colored dental materials, these procedures are long-lasting and the shade is more easy to predict than in years past. Additionally, in an effort to preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible, many dentists today employ more conservative techniques. Chipped, broken, discolored, or decayed teeth may be repaired, or have their appearance amended, through the use of a method called composite bonding. A synthesized substance with the look of enamel and dentin is spread into the cavity or joined onto the surface of a tooth, sculpted into shape, then contoured and solidified with a high-intensity light, producing a restoration that blends subtly with what remains of the surrounding tooth structure and the rest of your natural teeth to produce a healthy, bright smile.

Teeth whitening quite possibly is the most commonly advised cosmetic dentistry procedure. Poor oral hygiene, and also smoking, specific foods, drink (especially coffee, tea, or red wine) can often stain teeth. The appearance of your smile can be brightened by bleaching your teeth. But, regular visits to your dentist and healthier oral hygiene will still be necessary.

Chips and cracks are corrected and repaired employing composite or porcelain laminates that are affixed with adhesive to the exterior of a tooth. These veneers can ameliorate a worn appearance or severe tooth discoloration. If you haven’t profited from teeth whitening, or if you have large separations in your teeth, veneers may also be advised.

Tooth loss can be offset using dental implants, which are artificial tooth root replacements. If neglected, over time tooth loss can compel the surrounding teeth to move slowly out of place and become overstressed. Cosmetically, the effect of dental implants is not only a better looking smile, but a more youthful appearance, since missing teeth induce the face to collapse, making an individual seem older.

Although we would all concede that internal happiness is the answer to an alluring smile, cosmetic dentistry provides many selections for happy people who are unhappy with their smile.
